Lively shooter killed at Michigan church, a minimum of 1 injured

Police responded to an active shooter at a church parking lot in the city of Wayne, Michigan, on Sunday, the Wayne Police Department announced in a social media post.

Officers learned upon their arrival that a CrossPointe Community Church security guard shot and killed the suspected shooter, who Deputy Chief Finley Carter III confirmed was a 31-year-old male.

“Shooter is going to be down in a parking lot. Someone ran him over,” an official says on the dispatch radio, obtained via Broadcastify.

Another male was also shot in the leg.

Authorities said the investigation is ongoing and urged the public to avoid the area. The church, located on Glenwood Road, is about 30 miles west of Detroit.

“Our leadership and support teams are on the ground, at the scene, in Wayne, Michigan providing assistance and investigative support,” Federal Bureau of Investigation deputy director Dan Bongino said in a post on X.

A video livestream from inside the church captured the moment the congregation reacted to reports of the shooter, with individuals running from the room and taking cover behind chairs.

“Everybody to the back, please, everybody come to the back. Come to the back,” someone is heard saying in the video.
